Last year at this time I was struggling so badly with back pain that I spent nearly all of my time laying down with nothing to do. I watched every single second of the 2014 Australian Open tennis coverage. This year I’m doing much better and was very proud to be able to sit and watch my mom’s hero Roger Federer in person, and to spend a whole day with a grounds pass sitting in the sweltering sun and drinking it all in. We had tickets to the opening night men’s singles match between Federer and Yen-Hsun Lu from Taipei in Rod Laver Arena, which was amazing. Our grounds pass was during round two where we watched Vasek Pospisil beat Paolo Lorenzi from Italy. We saw a little of the women’s doubles (Raquel Kops-Jones (USA) & Abigail Spears (USA) vs. Kimberly Birrell (AUS) & Priscilla Hon (AUS)), and then later in Hisense we caught Jerzy Janowicz (POL) vs. Gael Monfils (FRA). Very entertaining tennis all around! Even at home I was able to work with tennis running on the tablet, with matches running downstairs on the TV too. I’ll definitely miss this next year. Wherever we end up, I doubt there will be as much coverage of the Australian Open, as channel 7 gave us. Here are some photos of the fun (mostly taken by Christian).
